World Industries Skateboards

World Industries Skateboards

An icon. In 1987 two pros, Steve Rocco and Rodney Mullen started this company. The graphics defined skateboarding in the 90's. Clean brightly coloured comic book graphics. The trend of ripping of popular logos and putting the skate brands logo in its place. A Pepsi circle logo yet the word says world instead. I think World did a lot of that.
Everyone copied this style and did these graphics in the 90's.

Then the characters Flameboy, Wet Willy and Devilman came out. These graphics were perfect for the young kids getting into skateboarding.

World Industries sold to a big company for millions. It was a huge business success for a skateboard company.

It is still in business today and the brands it spawned have been important to skateboarding.
